Lakeway Resort & Spa Review

We visited Lakeway Resort & Spa on a quiet day in late October. The fifty-three-year-old property, built in 1966, is quaint and picturesque situated in the Texas Hill Country on Lake Travis, about an hour drive from Central Austin. It features a pool, spa, restaurant, bar and hotel rooms with lakeside views. In the summertime, you will find access to boat and jet ski rentals plus the pool, bar & grill, and a waterslide which is open on a seasonal basis when the temperature is above 55 degrees.

The highlight of the Travis Restaurant and Lounge is certainly its sunset view. You can enjoy wine by the glass while awaiting your meal. The menu was recently revamped to include an array of different cuisines ranging all the way from Hong Kong influenced calamari to pappardelle pasta to chicken tortilla soup, although it seems the restaurant had previously focused its menu more as a steakhouse offering rib eyes, pork chops and beef filet, which remain on the menu. Other diners in the restaurant included retired couples and guests meeting with local realtors to explore purchasing real estate in the Lake Travis area. Dessert was our personal favorite, you cannot go wrong with s’mores bread pudding!

I visited the spa on our second day at the property. The staff were so friendly and polite, and I enjoyed a mimosa before beginning a 60-minute treatment. I chose a seasonal pumpkin special scrub for Fall, and enjoyed the aroma while relaxing in the tranquil environment.

We highly recommend visiting in the Summer for the best experience, as this resort’s main highlights include access to the lake, pool and watersports. With amenities for children, and an average guest age of 55+, we think this would also be a great choice for families versus young millennials and professionals.

Rooms are as low as $120/night and go up to $250/night in peak season, with a $32 resort fee for access to the 24 hour fitness facility and pool. The resort doubles as an exclusive membership club which runs about $600/year. Pets are also welcome for $100 non-refundable fee.

Overall Ranking: B-

Pros: Beautiful lakeside views, friendly staff and nice spa amenities.

Cons: Most amenities are closed in the late Fall and Winter, the building and design are a little outdated and could use upgrades, and the resort tends to cater more to families and retired couples than younger audiences.
