Happy National Ice Cream Month!
The temperatures have hit the triple digits, and a frozen treat is sounding better than ever! Therefore, we have rounded up ten of our favorite ice cream shops in Austin, Texas.
Prohibition Creamery:
Prohibition is my personal favorite ice cream shop on the east side for their boozy flavored ice cream cones + bar setup! They release new flavors regularly with handcrafted sundaes and toppings like: luxardo cherries, candied oranges, bourbon whipped cream. This Spring they launched a new flavor infused with CBD oil.
Amy’s Ice Cream:
Perhaps the most ‘Austin’ ice cream shop of them all… Amy’s Ice Cream has 350+ flavor combinations and has been around for 35 years since 1984. The original location is located just north of The University of Texas on Guadalupe Street. Amy’s Ice Cream offers FREE ice cream on your birthday, too!
Lick Honest Ice Creams:
Looking for a frozen treat without the guilt? Lick Honest Ice Creams is known for transparency in their seasonal ingredients, over 73% of which come from local farmers. There are four locations around Austin: Mueller, South Lamar, Burnet Rd and a new scoop truck outside of Lazarus Brewing on East Sixth Street.
The Baked Bear:
If you prefer a cookie AND ice cream combo deal, then you will appreciate Baked Bear’s elaborate cookie sandwich offerings. The Baked Bear is located in Seaholm and you can build your own custom sandwiches.
Nadamoo Scoop Shop
Nadamoo first started selling their vegan, dairy-free ice cream in 2004 to Texas retailers. In June of 2018, Nadamoo opened their first scoop shop on South Lamar. Austinites can now visit the shop to order their favorite Nadamoo Ice Cream with fresh toppings. Yum!
Teo Espresso & Gelato
Craving Italian Gelato? Look no further than Teo Espresso and Gelato on West 38th Street. Their award winning gelato won People’s Choice at the World Gelato Awards in Chicago and has been a popular destination in Austin for over 15 years. You can also find their gelato at HEB and Central Market stores.
Holla Mode
The Holla Mode food truck is located on Barton Springs and they serve their own unique Thai style ice cream. After traveling through Thailand, the owners of Holla Mode made their way back to Austin and opened their food truck in 2014. They source many of their ingredients locally and avoid using stabilizers, food coloring and frozen produce so you can always trust what is in your bowl.
Sweet Ritual
Another dairy-free option on our list– Sweet Ritual makes their ice cream from scratch and caters to all diets: Keto, Paleo, Vegan, etc. They are also very environmentally friendly and aim to use solely compostable goods in their scoop shop on Airport Blvd. Two local ladies, Amelia Raley and Valerie Ward, opened up Sweet Ritual in 2011.
Cow Tipping Creamery
Cow Tipping Creamery is known for their over-the-top, creative soft serve sundaes, shakes and floats. Their Austin ice cream shop is attached to Cane Rosso pizza shop near Sunset Valley.
Spun Ice Cream
Two sisters in Austin dreamed up Spun Ice Cream and they now have three locations in Austin, including their East Austin shop, a location inside Whole Foods Domain and Noble Sandwich company. The ice cream shop focuses on using local daily and ingredients, and the science of liquid nitrogen for both FUN and TASTE.
